How are the courses and classes conducted?
The schedule is planned around weekly class sessions of 1 1/2 hours for 13
weeks. Students have homework assignments in the study guide. Homework
requires (1) reading a portion of Scripture, (2) reading (or listening to)
the lecture, (3) answering approximately 20 questions in the study guide
or other assignments. Students should plan to study 3 or 4 hours a week.
The classroom teacher usually starts with his/her own thoughts or lecture. When
completed, the students discuss answers given to their questions. This
precipitates lively discussion and a refinement of the truths and answers. Students
discover that the completed homework is the pass to participating in the
discussions. At the close, the instructor advises the number of points for each
correct answer. Students enter this score in the study guide. As the semester
proceeds, this becomes the final grade. Final exams are not supplied by
IBI. However, the instructor has the option of giving finals or deleting some of
the weekly questions and adding his/her own.
